Peggy and the rest of the AFC staff: Congratulations! My students have
always found the site helpful. It goes to show what an invaluable service
the AFC offers the public. BTW, I was at the Book Fair on Sep. 8th but only
for the very last hour and didn't get to see you all--looked like it was
successful beyond anyone's dreams...N

Subject: AFC Homepage Visits
Dear Board and Staff:
Just a bit of interesting news . . . . .
The statistics for September are out, and the American Folklife
Center Homepage is the third most visited site among the 26 Library of
Congress reading room homepages. We lag only behind Prints &
Photographs and Newspapers/Periodicals for visitation. During the
month of September we had 184,726 hits, just to our homepage alone
(does not include visits to our American Memory sites and others). Of
course, this means that our reference staff are working very hard
indeed, for many of these visits result in email requests for research
assistance.
This significant jump in visitation may be due to several very timely
projects: the Veterans History Project, the Sept. 11th Documentary
Project, and continuing interest in Save Our Sounds and Local
Legacies.
Thanks to Stephanie Hall for bringing this news to us.
