5.5 System Outputs--Library Subscriber/Subscription Report
5.5 Library Subscriber/Subscription Report. Libraries need
copies of Talking Book Topics, Braille Book Review, catalogs,
and bibliographies in order to know what their
patrons will receive. They also need copies provided in
bulk as backup for new patrons and patrons who did not
receive their copies. The CMLS library masterfile, separate
from the patron masterfile, fulfills this need. It contains
first-class and bulk-mailing addresses for network libraries
and multistate centers, and the number of copies of each
publication they receive.
Labels for publications are created from the library
masterfile. The number of labels is determined by the
number of publications packaged in each box. The total
publication quantity for each library is printed on the
first label for each address. CMLS provides NLS with monthly
printouts of this report. (See sample on the next page.)
In addition, each network library receives a printout of its
report biennially in even-numbered years from the NLS
Publication and Media Section (PMS) for confirmation or
revision of quantities. Libraries send request forms with
changes or new publications to PMS. After review, requests
are forwarded to the CMLS contractor. Libraries can also
adjust the quantities at any other time during the year as
their needs change by contacting PMS.
Libraries must send changes for other library masterfile
data, such as addresses and telephone numbers, to the CMLS
Coordinator or to the Network Services Section when they
occur. They are then relayed to the CMLS contractor after
review.
