MARC is only a container. A common container is not much use as long as the
contents do not also conform to common rules. That's a bigger challenge.
We can provide German data wrapped up in MARC tagging, but that doesn't make it
AACR data. The forms of corporate names, for instance, would still be German.
There is currently a drive toward AACR in Germany, but it is too early to tell
what the result will be. A switch to MARC as local format is less likely, and
unnecessary as long as we can export MARC.
