Yes, some data will be lost (i.e. the fields not included in the mapping).
We are working on another DTD that would retain every field in a
conversion from MARC (in fact the conversion program we're working on
first converts it to what we call the "base" DTD and that transforms it to
MODS). This "base" DTD is different than the big one we have out on our
Web site and will be much smaller and less complex without losing any
data.
