Machines and Accessories No.02-02
Date: February 28, 2002
Subject: Sharpie Color-coded Marker for the Drive Kits
Last year NLS introduced a marking system to indicate on
machines the year in which drive kits and/or heads are
installed during repairs. The color-coding system provides
useful information to the technician in the field and will
be continued for 2002. This year the color will be green.
For the calendar year 2002, the repair technician will mark
newly installed parts with a green marker (PN AID-09G)supplied by NLS.
This will alert technicians on subsequent
repairs that these parts were replaced in the year 2002 and
should be tested for correct operation before replacement is
considered.
Heads should be marked according to their replacement within
the year. The first head replacement in the year (whether
unmarked or marked in red) will be replaced with a head
marked "1" in green. If that head has to be replaced within
the year, it will be marked "2". Thus, if a machine comes
in with a head marked "4," the head has been replaced four
times within the year.
Attached is a wall chart including a picture of the marking
procedure. We request that everyone follow this method of
marking the parts so that we can have a standardized marking
procedure.
NOTE: This procedure provides an approximate indication of
when the parts were changed. It is preferable to put a
sticker inside the machine (either in the battery door or
inside the bottom cover) that details the machine repair.
This sticker must include date of repair, technician's
initials, and a listing of the major parts replaced. Repair
operations that use the sticker do not have to use the
marker.
