Dear BIBCO Participants:
The BIBCO Operations Committee and CONSER
Operations Committee
will be conducting meetings this week at the
Library of Congress. The agenda of the BIBCO
OpCo, which will commence on Thursday, May 2, 2002
is available at:
http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/bibco/opco02.html
The CONSER Operations Committee meeting will
begin May 1 with serials training; the agenda is
available at:
http://www.loc.gov/acq/conser/2002agenda.html
Both agendas are linked to the PCC Strategic and
Tactical Plans which have been modified as a
result of the PoCo meeting held in November 2001
and that are to be discussed by the OpCo with the
expectation that feedback will be sent to the PoCo
for consideration at their final deliberations to
be held November 2002.
The focus of the joint BIBCO/CONSER OpCo
meeting this May is the Integrating Resources
(IR) prototype workshop that will be conducted by
Steven J. Miller, University of
Wisconsin--Milwaukee. This training, developed
under the auspices of the SCT Task Group on
Integrating Resources Training
(http://lcweb.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/tgirtrng.html),
will cover both electronic and print integrating
resources and will refer to the forthcoming
relevant rules and LCRIs.
A portion of the joint meeting will focus on
making decisions for PCC libraries to follow when
coding an integrating resources record as "pcc".
As noted at ALA, the release limitation on
pre-publication copies of AACR2 has also limited
LC's release of the draft LCRIs for full-scale
review by the PCC; however, in the interest of not
delaying the publication of the relevant LCRIs we
are forging ahead. Those BIBCO participants not
attending this meeting are encouraged to read over
the documents and send comments, questions, etc.
to this list or directly to me at at the e-mail
below.
