I'm trying to get a sense of how other institutions are encoding
microfilm reels in their finding aids. We have several manuscript
collections which have matching microfilm. Microfilm reel 1
usually starts with Box 1, folder 1, but subsequent reels often begin
the middle of a physical box of documents. In our old paper and html
finding aids, we simply listed the start of each new reel in the left
hand margin next to the appropriate box or folder. When Apex coded
our finding aids, they tagged the microfilm reels as another
container level. This doesn't seem entirely appropriate.
How have others dealt with this?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
