Probably better if someone from the MODS effort addresses this, but I think
there is a desire to make sure that MODS can be used as a METS extension
schema, but also a recognition that MODS will have other applications than
just METS.
On the OAI/METS issue, NYU hasn't embarked on this yet, but we will shortly.
The OAI component of it I expect to be fairly painless, actually. The
issue for
starting to use METS and OAI is establishing METS profiles to ensure that
Harvester A knows what it's getting from Data Provider B when B provides a
METS object through an OAI interface.
