Recently the question was posed:
May we freely edit an existing 670 field? In this situation, the
catalogers feel that it's helpful to know whether a Southeast Asian
literary author with a Chinese or hybrid Chinese/English name is
Malaysian, Indonesian, or from Singapore.
From the NACO point of view, the answer has two parts.
1. It's valid to add more information to a 670 citation if you have the
same item in hand.
2. It's a PCC goal to give just as much information in a record as is
needed without taking too much of the cataloger's time. The cataloger
is invited to find the proper balance between the benefit of the
information added and the cost involved in entering the data.
