Summer vacations are fast approaching. If you want to suspend your
AMfellows mail while
you're away from your computers, the instructions are included below.

If you want to switch the address for your AMfellows mail,
WRITE TO ME DIRECTLY ([log in to unmask]) <mailto:[log in to unmask]>
with the address the list currently uses and the address you want
it to use for the summer. Let me know when to switch back, too.
Please do not send this to the entire list. (Note "reply" sends it to the
list.)

Also, many schools take their email servers down for summer upgrades, etc.
When it happens to AMfellows list members, the system sends me
error messages in response to every message posted to the list. If your
mailbox is full (according to your local administrator's standards) the
same problems appear. After a few of these incidents, the listserv software
will automatically delete you from the list and then I have to go in and
manually add you back after you tell me the coast is clear. I don't mind
doing this, but it's much more efficient (especially for me) to have you
suspend your listserv mail before the upgrade or vacation and then
start it up again afterward.

To do this, send a message to:

[log in to unmask]

Leave the subject and signature blank. In the body of the message, type:

SET AMFELLOWS NOMail
If you want to temporarily suspend Amfellows messages for vacation.

SET AMFELLOWS Mail
To re-start Amfellows message delivery after time on "NOMail" status.

If you are surprised to learn that your server has gone down and it looks
like you got dropped (by the software, not me) from the list, let me know
when your server comes back up so that I know when to add you back to the
list. Also, if anybody out there wants to switch the account where you get
you Amfellows mail, let me know about that too. In both cases, send the
message directly to me, not the list <mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Leave your subject line blank and disable your signature file. In the body
of the message, enter one of the commands below.

Some other useful commands...

SET AMFELLOWS DIGests
To have your Amfellows messages delivered as one mail message a day
when there is traffic.

SET AMFELLOWS NODIGests
To return to having Amfellows messages delivered individually.

SET AMFELLOWS REPRO
If you want to see the messages that you posted as part of your incoming
list mail.

SET AMFELLOWS ACK NOREPRO
If you want a short acknowledgement, instead of your own messages.

SET AMFELLOWS NOACK NOREPRO
If you want neither acknowledgement nor your own messages.

INDEX AMFELLOWS
If you want to see a list of available archive files.

INFO REFCARD
To get a list of other commands and information about them.

---

To see the archive of what you missed while you were on "NOMAIL" status:

Listserv archives are not terribly sophisticated indexing systems. All the
messages from a month are packaged together into a single ascii file. When
you send the "index amfellows" command, to <[log in to unmask]>, you get
a list of these files from September 1997 to the current month. (You could
actually skip this step, because the file naming convention is shown
below.) To have a whole month's correspondence mailed to you in one email
message, send a message to <[log in to unmask]>. Leave your signature
and subject line blank. In the body of the message, type:

    GET AMFELLOWS LOGyymm

... where "yy" is the year and "mm" is the month. For example,
for what went by last month, send the command:

GET AMFELLOWS LOG0205

Let me know if you need help on any of these topics.
