Federal and Armed Forces Libraries Round Table (FAFLRT) Program: Saturday June 15: 10:30-Noon
"Open Archival Information System (OAIS) Reference Model: What Does It Mean for Libraries?"
The Open Archival Information System (OAIS) Reference Model is a draft ISO standard dedicated to preserving and maintaining access to digital information over the long term. This development has the potential to facilitate future cooperative efforts between digital libraries, archives and other institutions with digital records, just like the MARC record and shared library catalogs have facilitated cooperation among traditional libraries. Speakers will describe the model, its significance to libraries and its application to digital library preservation projects.
The program will be preceded by a membership meeting of the Federal and Armed Forces Libraries Round Table from 9:00-10:00.
