Dear colleagues,
Michael Everson has proposed to add alpha-2 and alpha-3 identifiers for the
language Yi. Documentation is found in the attached three messages (I do
hope they get successfully through the various email systems).
His proposal is to assign alpha-2 "yy" and alpha-3 "yii". It should be noted
that alpha-2 "yi" is taken (Yiddish).
The item was on the agenda for the 2000-02 meeting. At that time it was
deferred, since not sufficient evidence was available at the meeting.
From the evidence that has been submitted, I don't find any reason to
"discourage" its approval.
The submitter gives "Nuosu, Nosu" as indigenous name(s). Does the Yi script
have case difference? If not, there is no reason for the upper-case "N". In
my database I have noted "nou-su" as the indigenous name. Further info?
I invite the JAC to discuss the issue, if there are sides of it that needs
discussion.
Best regards,
Håvard
