Coming back to the list after a bit of a break ...
Another memorable SF librarian quote was in a Harry Harrison short story,
"The Robot who wanted to Know", which I read in the collection "War with the
Robots". I no longer have a copy of the book, but the story was about a
robot librarian. The story told us that librarian robots were the most
sophisticated intellectually of all robots, as required by their calling - I
can't remember the exact quote.
Are there many SF stories about librarians? Two that spring to mind are the
heroine in the movie "The Mummy", and the Librarian in Pratchett's
"Diskworld" series. Any others that people enjoyed?
