By asking for <xsl:value-of
select="ead/archdesc/dsc/c01[@id='ser2']/scopecontent" /> you are asking for
the text value of the node. If you want our output to contain the <p></p>
tags, use <xsl:copy-of select="ead/archdesc/dsc/c01[@id='ser2']/scopecontent"
/>instead.
