REMINDER: Register for FLICC's Cataloging Concepts: Descriptive
Cataloging
July 30--August 2, 2002
Broaden your understanding of descriptive cataloging principles,
policies, and procedures. This program is geared to those who have not
had formal cataloging instruction. By the end of this course,
participants will be able to:
* Define the purpose and scope of descriptive cataloging
* Identify the tools used for descriptive cataloging of books and
other
materials
* Identify the areas and elements of the bibliographic record in MARC
format
* Identify the MARC field tag for each area of a MARC-formatted
bibliographic record
* Articulate the principles and rules descriptive catalogers use in
creating the bibliographic description and selecting and formulating
main and added entries
* Define the purpose and identify the structure of online name and
series authority records
