Roelant --
Fortunately I received your message just as I'm about to depart for a week. Yes, there is a pre-pre-specification, at http://www.loc.gov/z3950/agency/zing/srwu/specs.html
and I've just now put a link to it, from the new SRW/U home page at http://www.loc.gov/z3950/agency/zing/srwu/srw.html which is now linked from the ZING page http://www.loc.gov/z3950/agency/zing/zing.html

There is a private listserv for SRW/U discussion and I'll subscribe you.

Because there exist almost no good system to do such in The Netherlands, we are developing 'from scratch'. Having made a Z39.50-implementation in the days that this was still done with BER and ASN.1, I was delighted to see that the good old Z39.50 is now being extended into the SOAP-corner as well.

I would like to contribute our experience of implementing an ONIX-bridge over Z39.50 using SOAP, both to the Z39.50-community and to the ONIX-community. Because experience with good S/R-protocols seems to be missing in the ONIX-community, I believe that a succesful implementation could help Z39.50 in gaining acceptance in that community, which is of great benefit to libraries as well.
