The Encoded Archival Description (EAD) Roundtable will meet at the SAA
meeting in Birmingham on Saturday morning August 24th from 8:00 a.m. - 9:30
a.m. The program for this year's meeting will be an overview and update on
the activities of the Archivist's Workbench project, kicked off in San Diego
in February of this year. The project seeks to create "a workbench or suite
of digital tools that would facilitate collection and management of
information about archival materials at the various points along the life
cycle of those collections. Ideally, a workbench would facilitate
integration of the disparate filing systems and databases now used in most
archival repositories for collecting and managing their archival
information, and it would enable more efficient production of various
outputs, ranging from encoded finding aids for use by end users to internal
administrative reports."
More information on the project is available at:

The EAD Roundtable meeting will include updates on the world of EAD
including the EAD Help Pages, EAD Working Group, EAD Cookbook, and RLG's EAD
activities. Elections will also be held for vice-chair, and we are still
accepting nominations and volunteers for this position. Please email
Stephen Miller at [log in to unmask] or Gina Minks at [log in to unmask]
We look forward to seeing you at this year's meeting!
