The FDIS for ISO 15924 is ready to be sent out for ballot -- this is
a final Yes/No ballot. Prior to that, however, there is a TC46 ballot
regarding the Maintenance Agency.
I would like to ask interested persons to contact their national
bodies to ensure that they vote positively on this ballot before the
deadline for voting, which is about ***one month*** from now. If it
passes, we should have an IS by the beginning of winter.
The ballot is given in ISO TC46 N1610 Proposal of change of
Maintenance Agency for ISO/DIS 15924
Deadline ***2002-09-15***
The text of the ballot is as follows:
==========
Proposal of change of Maintenance Agency for ISO/DIS 15924 :
Information and documentation - Code for the representation of names
of scripts
The ballot for DIS 15924 : "Information and documentation - Code for
the representation of names of scripts" began on 2000-08-10 and
closed 2001-01-10. The result of the DIS vote recorded in document
ISO/TC46/SC2 N566R2 was the following :
- 19 P-members were registered in TC46/SC2
- 14 P-members voted
- 11 P members approved the document (with 3 comments)
- 3 P-members disapproved the document.
In conclusion, DIS 15924 was approved.
Annex A of DIS 15924 contains the procedures for the Maintenance
Agency and Maintenance Agency's Advisory Committee ISO 15924. A.1
proposed the name of the organisation in charge of the MA as follows:
"A.1 Maintenance Agency
Everson Gunn Teoranta (EGT) has been designated as the Maintenance
Agency for this International Standard (ISO 15 924/MA). This company
is responsible for the addition of script codes according to these
procedures. "
After resolution of comments (during which, on the advice of the ISO
CS, the Maintenance Agency was to become a Registration Authority)
the document was ready for FDIS ballot.
Since that time, however, « Everson Typography », a subsidiary of «
EGT » since 1996, has split off on its own under the management of Mr
Michael Everson, who no longer maintains an interest in EGT. Mr
Everson, who proposed NP 15924 and has served as editor for the
project, was to have been responsible for the Registration Authority
while it was assigned to EGT. Because EGT no longer participates in
standardization, Mr Everson proposes to continue his commitment to
head the Registration Authority in replacement of the one announced
in the DIS. Everson Typography has a long-standing reputation in the
field of IT internationalization and is well-known to the community
of users of script codes. Mr Everson serves as Language-Tag Reviewer
for the IETF (RFC 3066), and maintains the script-based "Roadmaps" to
Unicode.
ISO/TC 46 Secretariat is requesting your acceptation for changing the
name of the organization in charge of this Registration Authority. If
you accept, the DIS will be forwarded to FDIS and submitted at the
same time to ISO TMB for acceptation of the RA organization.
