Right. I didn't mean to imply that | had anything to do with anchoredness.
It was the related question of how to distinguish character trunction vs
word truncation.
So, unanchored is the same as left truncating and hence * as the first
character in the term (right? We're agreeing that we were wrong in July?)
At least, I'm not seeing any other explanation for Ray's question...
