My question no doubt screams "novice" so feel free to respond to me
directly off the list at [log in to unmask] if it's too basic for
the list!
At the University of Cape Town (South Africa) Manuscripts and Archives
Department, we are just starting to implement EAD. We are using XMetal3
and have no display problems with our XML files. The problem occurs when
I convert the XML files to HTML following the directions for doing such
in the XMetal3 User Guide (basically creating macros to "Convert XML to
HTML", "Save as HTML" "Preview or Print as HTML"). In a nutshell, I lose
all the formatting from the .xsl stylesheets when I view the HTML
version.
I guess my question is does one go through the HTML file and mark up the
text with HTML tags so it can use a .css stylesheet? All the directions
and case studies I've come across explain how to convert XML to HTML
using earlier XMetal versions so I'm not sure if I'm just a bit slow on
the uptake (very possible indeed!) and this is what everyone has to do
OR have I missed a step somewhere that keeps the stylesheet formatting.
Many thanks for your time!
