Well, mediocre westerners were often referred to as
"oaters" or "horse opera"
SF was sometimes referred to as "that crazy Buck
Rogers stuff" or in Phil Dick novels as "Captain
Kirks"
romance movies are referred to as "chick flicks"
(whether or not that is perjorative depends on just
who is describing them that way)
for some, the term "teen comedy" invites a shudder
