CURRENT SITUATION:
ISO 639 encoding: cau = Caucasian (other)
Linguasphere: 42-BAA-aa = Ghalghaay. Ingush is given as a "Russian" name.
Ethnologue: INH = Ingush. Some 230.000 speakers in Chechen Ingushetia.
"Ghalghay" is given as an indigenous name.
COMMENTS:
Both the proposed identifier (ing) and the Ethnologue identifier (inh) are
available. Because of the ongoing coordination with Ethnologue I would
suggest that we select "inh".
I should think that Ingush should be the only English name listed.
Best regards,
Håvard Hjulstad
(acting chairman of ISO 639 RA-JAC)
