Subject: Altai
The requester has confirmed that it is the southern version of Altai that
she is interested in as a separate language (all the material they have is
from Gorno-Altaisk). In this case, no change would be needed for Altaic
(Other) if we add a separate code for the Southern Altai language.
(Ethnologue lists two languages, Northern Altai and Southern Altai.) The
Library of Congress has a term Altai in the MARC language code list, which
is equivalent to Ethnologue's Southern Altai (and uses the collective code
for Altaic (Other)).
Rebecca
CURRENT SITUATION:
ISO 639 encoding: tut = Altaic (other)
Linguasphere: 44-AAB-dg = Altay
Ethnologue: ALT = Southern Altai. There are some 71.000 speakers in Asian
Russia.
COMMENTS:
Should be included. The identifier "alt" is available.

Håvard Hjulstad
