Adam and others,
I'm sending you a quick response. CPSO will send a more formal
response. Basically, catalogers of integrating resources should fill
out in the serials 006 those bytes that pertain to seriality: frequency,
regularlity, publication status, type of continuing resource,
beginning/ending dates, and entry conventions. This goes beyond the
three bytes with new coding. However, I don't think you need to recode
the bytes that are common to all, such as language, country, and form of
item.
We will be documenting the official practice in the CEG and BIBCO
documentation, but it is important that this be clear now.
Let me also clear up one misconception that I've heard. Frequency code
'k' (continuously updated) is to be used for those IRs that are updated
more than once a day, such as the Washington Post Web site. This code
does not apply to all integrating resources! Just think if we had to
issue updates to the CEG more than once a day!!!
I hope this helps and again, CPSO will be sending out further
instructions soon.

Hi folks,
I heard at a workshop last week that when an 006 is added for the
seriality aspects of an integrating resource, that not all the bytes
in
the 006 will be coded, only the four for form of material, frequency,
type
of continuing resource, and entry convention. This was the first I
had
heard that the entire 006 wouldn't be filled out. Is this an
articulated
PCC practice somewhere? LC practice? Is there a national practice
set
for this that I missed?
