I can't speak to the question of today's copy of the OCLC authority
files, but sh 96006515 (Folk songs, American) and sh 96006516 (American
folk songs) are reference records. These are not valid headings. Folk
songs, English |z United States (sh 87003293) is a valid heading which
the SAF notes is an example under references from American folk songs
and Folk songs, American. Folk songs in a single language the SAF (sh
85049922) notes are entered under this heading with language qualifier
such as Folk songs, English. Formerly Folk songs were also entered with
national qualifier such as Folk songs, American. This practice is no
longer valid.
