Adam Schiff asked:
Any word on whether OCLC will be running a database scan and changing all
of its earlier records to the new way of recording this information?
OCLC staff have talked about a database conversion but have not reached any
final decision. The MARBI proposal that I cited earlier makes the previous
practice of stacked codes "obsolete". That means that, while the obsolete
practice should not be used in new records, it can still occur in records
created prior to its being made obsolete. As a result, systems are going to
have to support both practices.
