This is a summary of the change to the explain response proposal.

Issue:

While there are diagnostics for Explain conditions, it is impossible to
return them as there is no space for them on the explain response.

Solution:

The proposed solution is to make the Explain response the same as the
Record type.  This would allow the recordSchema to be set to the
diagnostic identifier and the recordData to the diagnostic, otherwise the
Explain data would be returned in the recordData field and the
recordSchema parameter set to the identifier for Explain.


Additional Proposal:

Pending the resolution of the XML Fragment, it should be possible to
request an XML encoded Explain record.

Solution:

This means adding a <recordPacking> parameter to the explainRequest and
following the same rules as for normal records in the response.
