Regarding your question on whether to nest <unitdate> within <unittitle>,
you might take a look at the RLG Best Practice Guidelines for EAD encoding,
which were revised in 2002 <http://www.rlg.org/rlgead/bpg.pdf>.
The guidelines prefer NOT placing <unitdate> within <unittitle> in keeping
with ISAD(G) practice, although they don't proscribe the other alternative.
The reasoning that won the day within the RLG advisory group on that
decision is that ISAD(G) practitioners can be expected to loom ever larger
in union environments; therefore, for consistency's sake, it makes sense to
prefer that alternative.
It would also be useful to know where the CUSTARD group is heading in this
regard.

Subject: markup of titles, dates
Are there currently any recommendations about whether to nest <unitdate>
elements within <unittitle>'s, or encode them separately, in compliance
with ISAD(G) v2? I'm especially interested in hearing about any
implications for searching across finding aids in a union environment.
