We are pleased to announce that the Federal Library and Information

Deployment Functions." This study is targeted at information
professionals; knowledge management professionals; market, competitive
and business intelligence professionals; librarians; training and
learning professionals; and portal managers. It focuses on
organization, budget, users, staff, services, content management,
content types, content deployment, vendors, and strategic management.

FLICC has worked with Outsell in the design of the Web-based
questionnaire to ensure its relevancy to federal libraries. Our hope is
that a manager or administrator from every federal library and
information center will complete the study. For those in headquarters
or central libraries, please forward this message on to your colleagues
in other agency libraries for their participation.
The results will provide valuable insights into the strategic direction
of government libraries and will update the findings of the last
official census of federal libraries, conducted in 1994. Because there
are no plans for another census in the foreseeable future, broad
participation in the Outsell survey is our best opportunity to learn
about the current state of federal libraries and information centers.
Outsell, Inc. will be providing federal respondents to the survey with a
copy of their government sector report.
In order to ensure that the data gathered is as complete and
representative as possible for all federal libraries and information
centers, FLICC strongly encourages your participation in this study.
Please note that responses to the survey will be treated as
confidential, will be reported only in the aggregate, and will not be
used for marketing purposes.
The survey will be available online through Wednesday, April 23, 2003.
If you have any questions about the survey or if you would like more
information regarding this study, please send an email to
