Just to make things clear for this audience: RefDB will eventually use
an extended data model most likely based on MODS (supporting multiple
users will require some extensions though). The current data model is
based on RIS that most commercial bibliography tools support (and that
librarians will rightfully laugh at). It was a nice point to start
with, but this data model turned out to be insufficient for general
use outside the life sciences. I believe MODS as it stands is a good
compromise between versatility and simplicity. MARC would be gross
overkill for the purposes that RefDB tries to cover.
