If a major complaint about vendor records and other minimal records on OCLC
is that they keep other libraries from getting an original cataloging
credit, let's lobby OCLC to change their charge/credit structure. I made
some noise about this several years ago, but without success. Currently,
the enhance credit is larger than the original credit, which I believe is
twice the minimal-level upgrade credit. This is clearly out of line with
the amount of work involved. If this situation were corrected, wouldn't
scanty records be better than no records at all?
