I do want to caution that MODS has been developed from the library
standard, MARC21. That standard is very weak in terms of article
citation because libraries do not generally create records for
individual articles -- that is done by a different "industry," mainly
abstracting and indexing services. Ironically it does seem that most of
the discussion on this list is how to get MODS to work for article
citations. I have to admit that this makes me a bit nervous about our
goals here, and about how much "mission creep" we want to sustain under
the guise of MODS.
