I think the question is: how do you communicate clearly what your date
means? It would be good to find an existing date schema to use, and it
seems to me that the SICI date would serve us here. I can't paste it
here because the document is a PDF, but it's at:

Select Z39.56. On PDF page 22 (numbered page 10) you see the chart on
how to turn dates like May 12, 2003 or Third Quarter, 2002 into numeric
dates. If those serve your purpose, then it's a matter of finding the
right identifier to name the schema that you are using.
