I've done some paper tapes from that era. One was apparently made on a
European machine as it ran about 6:5's fast. I used the hum as a reference
and then notched it out.
It's amazing what survives.
I, too, have seen large amounts of "spoking" from the incredibly large
slots as well. I usually respool these to large-hub 7-inch reels and add
leader to both ends.
