I want to make the list aware of a problem we discovered at RLG last week
when several conversions for Archival Resources of EAD 2000 finding aids
failed.
The DocType declaration has changed in EAD 2002. The DocType must be
entered in the exact format as follows:
<!DOCTYPE ead PUBLIC "+//ISBN 1-931666-00-8//DTD ead.dtd (Encoded Archival
Description (EAD) Version 2002)//EN" "ead.dtd">
The most common problems have been:
not including the ISBN;
introducing a line break; and
eliminating the space between the first "ead.dtd" and "(Encoded...).
The syntax seems to be unforgiving and needs to be followed exactly.
This affected about ten of the institutions who regularly contribute to
Archival Resources and they have been
notified. I hope this heads-up will help others avoid the same problem.
Yours in happier conversions,
Gregory
