At California State University, Northridge we are just now starting to
convert our finding aids from Word to EAD. Unfortunately, I am
experiencing problems opening the EAD template within XML.
I have XML 3.0 loaded on my machine and downloaded the EAD dtd from the
Library of Congress Web Site (http://www.loc.gov/ead/ead2002a.html). I
unzipped the files and added them to a EAD folder under templates. When
I open File, New, I see a TAB named EAD which has a single icon named
eadcatalog. When I try to open that file, a dialog box pops up stating
that it could not open it because no XML schema was specified. I chose
"browse for a schema, I was given the choice to open either ead.rld or
ead.xsd. Neither of which I can open -- "This document contains an
element <catalog> that is not permitted by the document's DTD ..."
I am sure there is a simple solution, and I would appreciate any
guidance in correcting the problem. It is fine to respond directly to me
rather than the list.
