Gail,
In the American Memory collection "California As I Saw It: First-Person
Narratives of California's Early Years, 1849-1900"
That collection contains an 1886 book, "Santa Barbara and Around
There," that has a few words on the Santa Barbara Chinatown. See
Chapter IV.
Of course, the new collection "The Chinese in California, 1850-1925"
has materials as well. <

Hello LOC Fellows,
I am working on a research project with several 6th grade teachers who
are investigating the vanished/erased Chinatowns of Sacramento and Santa
Barbara (California). We are looking for literature to support the
project. We have Lawrence Yep's Dragonwings and Dragon's Gate, but
wondered if any of you have additional recommendations.
