Hello all:
We are finishing another guidelines revision for the Northwest Digital
Archives project and find that we need some additional feedback on a couple
of matters.
We are encoding both a filetitle and some internal browsing terms to
produce, respectively, an alphabetical list of all finding aids in the
database and a quick set of broad-based subject links to the finding aids.
The filetitle will be encoded as <titleproper>, and local subject terms as
their own section of <controlaccess>. We do not want either one to display
in the finding aid, so we had planned to set each as Audience="internal".
But one of our number has pointed out that this is an improper use of the
audence attribute, and that if the finding aids are displayed in XML, these
will be stripped out. He suggests using altrender="nodisplay".
Do you all have any other suggestions? As always, we would prefer not to
reinvent the wheel and all of it parts...
Best, Jodi

"Books are easy! Ninety-five percent of them exist in multiple copies and
are now easily accessible through international databases. It is the
scholarly resources hidden in archives that we need to make more visible."
