The Library of Congress is pleased to announce the final
release of the Thomas Jefferson Papers at the Library of
Congress, < http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/mtjhtml/ >
available via the American Memory web site.
In this final release, forty-two items, totaling 220 images,
have been added to the Thomas Jefferson Papers online.
These letters and other documents date from 1781 to 1829.
They are a part of the Addenda to the Jefferson Papers,
manuscripts acquired by the Library of Congress after the
bulk of the original collection had been processed and
microfilmed. Among the newly-added manuscripts are
Jefferson's correspondence with his Richmond business
factors, Patrick Gibson and George Jefferson, an order of
execution, and a subsequent pardon signed by Jefferson.
Including this release, the online collection will total
more than 27,000 documents, or 83,000 images, consisting
of correspondence, memoranda, notes, commonplace
books, financial account books, and manuscript volumes.
The Thomas Jefferson Papers at the Library of Congress
make up the most important collection of Jefferson manuscripts
in the world. The bulk of the correspondence and writings
falls within the period 1775-1826 and encompasses the major
events of the founding and growth of the United States
in that era.
