Fellows and friends,
Library of Congress Information Technology staff will be performing routine
maintenance on the Library's web servers on the President's Day Holiday,
Monday, Feb. 16. Various parts of the Library's web site will be down
periodically for a few hours at a time. Like a yo-yo, the web site will be
up and down all day.
Since LC's web files reside more than one server, one part of the site may
be working when the other parts are down down and vice versa. The the
"www.loc.gov" (and "lcweb") server hosts the main home page, the online
exhibitions, the Copyright site, and more. The server hosting American
Memory holds web sites whose addresses include "memory" "lcweb2" and
"hdl.loc.gov." So if American Memory is down, don't expect the Learning
Page, or the Prints and Photographs Online Catalog, or the Country Studies
to work either. The Library's online catalog "http://catalog.loc.gov" and
THOMAS "http://thomas.loc.gov" reside on their own servers, which may also
be up when other parts are down. All should be fine on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
The America's Library site <http://www.americaslibrary.gov/> is hosted
off-site and should not be affected by this planned outage.
