As previously announced, the second METS Opening Day events will take place
at Stanford University, Stanford, California on April 8th and 9th, 2004.
This is the second of several planned Opening Day events. The next is
scheduled for July 2004, and will be held in the United Kingdom following
the JISC/CNI conference in Brighton.
The first day of this event will provide an overview of the METS
transmission protocol, and discuss the basics of implementing digital
library systems which use METS. Participants will be given an opportunity
to build METS documents from scratch, and learn about how other institutions
are implementing METS.
The second day of this event will be a METS Developer's Forum where
participants will have the opportunity to hear presentations by METS
implementers, and to discuss the technical details of implementing METS on a
number of topics such as METS creation and ingestion tools, endorsed
extension schemas, etc.
There will be separate registration for each day of the METS Opening Day
events. See attached registration form which is a separate document (MS
Word) that can be returned to [log in to unmask], and will also be found
on the METS website in the next few days. Please note that the number of
participants who can attend either day is limited, and that separate
registration is required for each day. Those people who have already
expressed interest by sending email either to [log in to unmask] to to me
will still need to fill out registration forms, but will already be on the
list of participants. Each person will receive confirmation of their
registration after the registration forms are completed and sent to us.
Information to assist you in making your hotel and travel arrangements is
included below and will also soon be available on the METS website. Please
note the deadline for making hotel reservations at the recommended hotel.
After that date, there may still be rooms available, but they will not be
part of the reserved block of rooms. A final program will be available on
the METS web site including any background information recommended by
presenters. The draft program is also attached to this message.
