All,
I have never known the proper way to handle this conference publication
situation though it has come up on a number of occasions.
For example: Three ongoing named conferences are held jointly in 2001
under a one-time unique name (e.g. Never-Again Congress on Coal). The
proceedings of the congress are cataloged as a monograph.
Each of the three ongoing conferences (each with its own ongoing
conference NAR) is named in the 2001 proceedings as being part of the
2001 joint congress. In 2002 all three conferences are once again
held separately.
To provide access to the 2001 congress proceedings via the names of
the three ongoing conferences how should we proceed?
1. On the bibliographic record make 711 added entries for
the three ongoing conferences, e.g.,
711 2 ABC Coal Conference (2001 : ... )
711 2 JKL Coal Conference (2001 : ... )
711 2 PRS Coal Conference (2001 : ... )
2. On the NAR for the joint congress include 411 "see"
references for the three ongoing conferences, e.g.,
111 2 Never-Again Congress on Coal (2001 : ... )
411 2 ABC Coal Conference (2001 : ... )
411 2 JKL Coal Conference (2001 : ... )
411 2 PRS Coal Conference (2001 : ... )
3. Other.
I am assuming it would not be appropriate to link the three conference
name NARs to the Congress name NAR with reciprocal 511 "see also"
references because the three conference names did not actually change
nor cease to exist in 2001.
Thanks in advance for your help.
