How about translating qualified <dateCaptured> elements into field 518,
or perhaps just the qualifier, with the date itself in 033?  Suppressing
the qualifiers would be misleading.

I guess the answer is really about the MODS to MARCXML stylesheet,
which
both the Library of Congress and National Library of Australia have
been
working on.  We're very keen *not* to maintain a local version of the
stylesheet, as we'd always have to update it.

So, perhaps my real question is whether the MODS to MARCXML stylesheet
should suppress or ignore qualifiers - rather than just not converting
the
data - if they can't be represented in MARC.
