Nancy,
The procedures for proposing a new free-floating subdivision to be
added to a pattern heading list are covered in the Subject Cataloging
Manual: Subject Headings H 1146 sec. 2. That means that in this case,
you could propose the new subdivision under the pattern heading for
plants and crops: 150 $a Corn $x Effect of manganese on. Creating
subdivision authority records to control free-floating subdivisions is a
housekeeping task that we take care of here at LC after the editorial
meeting. When your proposal is approved, we will create and distribute
the subdivision authority record: 180 $x Effect of manganese on. For
proposing the addition of the 360 to the existing heading Corn--Effect
of manganese on, you could use either the Web change proposal form or
the email change proposal form. For fields that are not indicated or
provided on these forms, just put them in the additional comments box.

I would like to propose the addition of $x Effect of manganese on to
the
list of subdivisions free-floating under Plants and Crops and am unsure
how
to adapt the Web forms both to propose a subdivision and to propose
the
related 360 needed under Plants--Effect of manganese on.
Is the omission of 180/360/681 options from these forms deliberate? Is
there
a different mechanism I should use for subdivision proposals? Can I
ignore
the instruction to select the tag from the pull-down tab and type 180
in the
adjacent box--and use the comments box for other non-prompted fields?
Would
it be better to edit the email version of the form?
Thanks much,
Nancy
