Renee,
We have converted our collection of African-American sheet music to MODS
using the MARC to MODS conversion tool and were very pleased with the
results. I did some preliminary tweaking to the MARC records to eliminate
some bizarre local practices that would have mucked up the
conversion. This collection is used by music, theater, and history
scholars so the metadata will be used in a variety of ways. We haven't
made this available to the general public yet because we're working on some
larger issues, but you can see a sample record at:

Obviously, in sheet music, we're generally not dealing with some of the
issues that crop up in classical music, such as uniform titles, but we were
very pleased with the way MODS was able to handle information such as
"first line of text" and "first line of chorus", a method our users often
rely on for identification.
We have several additional sheet music collections in the pipeline to
convert. We also plan to include DC records in the METS records.
