2004 Joint Spring Workshop
USA Patriot Act: What it Means for Your Library, What it Means for You
See Special Registration Instructions Below--Registration Deadline May
7, 2004
The USA Patriot Act has been a controversial piece of legislation
since
its enactment following September 11, 2001. Supporters hail it as a
necessary tool to fight terrorism while opponents question its
provisions for expanded police powers and raise concerns about privacy
issues. Libraries and library records are specifically mentioned in
the
act, making it a law of particular importance to the information
profession. The program speakers will give an overview of the act,
discuss its policy implications for libraries and look ahead to future
amending legislation.
