Barbara--
We're so small that I've never even HEARD of Form 3868!
Basically we're on internal mailing lists for anything that gets published here (press releases, Q&A, Annual Reports, Actuarial publications, IG Semi-Annual Reports, etc.).
For things that GPO publishes, we usually get the information in time to submit a form SF-1 to ride the GPO printing requisition. We offer a great "carrot": we will pay for a reasonable number of copies for internal use.
Our Railroad Retirement publications are housed mainly in class HD7116. The disadvantage is that everything is so closely cataloged that you have to read long Cutter numbers to locate a given item. The exception is the old Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly Review that we house with the journals. It was that way in 1980 when I took this job, and we decided not to change it due to the log jam in HD 7116.

I am requesting information from libraries that handle their agency's
publications, particularly:
whether or not you submit the GPO Form 3868 "Notification of Intent to
Publish" or have other methods to notify GPO?
BLM is decentralized, so each individual state publishing group submits
this form for their publications
do you house agency's materials within your library?
all the ones we can get ahold of!
if so, by sudocs? no
as a separate collection? no
or by some other organizational method?
they are cataloged by LC within the regular collection
For those who respond, if I also could have your opinions (pro/con) on the
methods you employ or employed in the past.
The pro is other libraries and library users accessing our catalog
(http://207.67.203.45/b10109/) see a familiar call numbering system; the
con is the bureau uses a different internal subject function code system to
organize materials within field offices.
