Don't know much about the uri issue, but flexibility is why I was also
arguing against the heavy reliance on attributes in mads (and indeed
mods).
For example, if you have <variant> you can always later add whatever
specific child elements (or offer finer control of the element) than if
you just have this coded only in the "otherVariant" attribute.
