Maybe.  Or maybe the server backs up 500 terms from the term you ask for and
starts loading a buffer and runs out of room after 50.  You get terms 450
away from the one you wanted.

I think the answer to all this is that error states are implementation
dependent.

Is this a real problem that you've run into?
