All,
Thanks to Mike, Liz and Mark for the tips. Liz and Mark's tips did produce a
space, but I needed the actual ' ' characters to appear as a string. My
inspiration last night was to try using hexadecimal characters in place of
the '&'--it worked nicely. The documentation for 'disable-output-escaping'
states it should only be used as a last resort, so I don't understand why it
did not perform in this specific case.
For those who care, IE (at least with 5.5) requires a character within
<a></a> for anchor refs to work-- works nicely as it is an empty
character. I also need something there to pass our HTML validation software.
I had been entering the string by hand after transformation. I'm using
Cookbook stylesheets.
